Armenian Wolfram Technology Conference Draws Hundreds of Enthusiasts

Published October 29, 2015

The inaugural Armenian Wolfram Technology Conference was held September 26 and 27, 2015, in the beautiful and fast-growing city of Dilijan. Hundreds of attendees, traveling from across Armenia and Georgia, took part in a full day of talks and participated in a second day of “master class” workshops and networking events. Topics ranged from machine learning to image processing to SystemModeler applications. With more than twice the number of participants originally expected, talks overflowed with audience members, and informal Q&A sessions and study groups of knowledge-hungry attendees sprang up organically.

Building on the momentum created by Dr. Stephen Wolfram, founder and CEO of Wolfram Research, during his visit to Armenia in 2014, International Business Development Executive Galina Mihalkina and Mathematica R&D Consultant Mikayel Egibyan followed up on the interest and enthusiasm expressed by the Armenian coding community with another highly successful event. The conference took place in the event space at the Central Bank of Armenia and at the prestigious United World College in Dilijan. Collateral and transportation were sponsored by the Union of Young Scientists of Yerevan State University. Expert instructors at the event who gave talks and led workshops included Dr. Vitaliy Kaurov and Roman Osipov, administrator and founder of Russian-language Mathematica support, as well as Wolfram Summer Camp alumnus Aren Karapetyan.

Development Executive Mihalkina plans to build on the excitement and momentum of the conference and is already working with the Armenian Ministry of Education to integrate Wolfram technologies at universities across the country.
